A mass of our customers own a large DVD collection each with hundreds/thousands or even more movies. They always need to rip DVDs to Plex media server to store, manage, serve, stream or watch them. Copying DVD movies to Plex may have more usages than you think, for example:
1. Using Plex Media Server to stream the ripped DVD movies to the various devices (PS4, PS3, Smart TV, Xbox, Chromecast, Roku, Apple TV, NAS, Seagate Central, iPad, Android, etc.) that family uses;

2. Loading DVD movies into so that kids do not destroy them.

Just to name a few.

Note: If you have the ripped DVDs that maintain the original DVD file structure(VIDEO_TS), you still need a DVD ripper to reformat these DVD files. It because that Plex states VIDEO_TS and other image file formats (ISO, etc.) are currently incompatible with the streaming system. It has to be repackaged or encoded into a file that can be streamed by the media server. Step 1. Load the DVD movie

First, of all the process starts at the DVD drive, insert your DVD in the drive, then launch the DVD ripper software. Click "Load DVD" button to upload DVD folders/ISO files/IFO files.

Step 2. Choose Plex compatible format

Click the "Profile" -> "Common Video" or "HD Video" option, and choose MP4, MKV, MOV, AVI, etc. formats recognized by Plex as output format. You can also select H.264 Video (*.mp4) for Plex Media Server.

1. If you are not overly concerned about file size, and would prefer the best-quality video and audio possible, the best container format would be MKV, which would be widely accepted by kinds of media servers, and would preserve any multichannel audio (i.e. 5.1 surround sound). The file size may range from 4GB to 7GB.

2. If you are using Roku media server, you need know video formats supported by Roku only cover MKV (H.264), MP4 (H.264), MOV (H.264), WMV (VC-1, firmware 3.1 only). The most recommended video formats would be MP4, MKV, H.264 and audio formats go to AAC, AC3 and DTS.

3. If you want to seek a good balance between quality and size
MP4 (MPEG-4 Part 14) would always be the answer. MPEG-4 video is the most universal format that is the best choice for playing or streaming movies onto Apple, Android, Microsoft Surface and Sony devices like HDTVs, iPhone, Apple TV, Mac, Samsung smartphone, Amazon Kindle Fire, Xbox, PS3 and PSP. Barely any player and gadget does not support MP4. Besides, it has a better video compression, so it can deliver a good quality outcome in small file size comparatively.

With the right settings you can retain the quality of the original DVD while also saving space. This is particularly helpful when streaming over your network, depending on your network quality. Simply click Settings bar and you can tweak the settings to your satisfaction and even save it as preset.

Once the conversion is finished, click "Open" to quickly find the ripped movies. Then, Plex will recognize, play and stream them just fine.
