Perils of the Bold #23

Annotations

This was a fun episode to create. I really like the way several of the panels turned out. Plus, you get to see the mimic attack! The episode took a couple hours longer to do because I had to sculpt the mouth, teeth, and eyestalks for the mimic.

Panel #1 - Thanks to zurikfb of the HirstArts messageboards for "lounge ranger".

Panel #2 - The first arrow manipulation panel. The arrows in the quiver are shortened and don't have heads. They're packed in pretty tight, so it's easy to pull one out a little to make it look like the ranger is pulling it out. I have no idea what innocent passerby the ranger thinks are strolling through the dungeons of Netherdoom.

Panel #4 - I only have one full-length arrow and it's also the only arrow with a head on it. The arrows are made out of colored toothpicks and Sculpey.

Panel #5 - The mimic reveals itself! The mouth, teeth, and eyestalks are all unbaked, unpainted Sculpey. I used a pillar of unbaked clay on the back of the mimic to make it appear to be leaping through the air. The shadows hide the pillar.

Panel #7 - The unbaked Sculpey makes it easy to poke in the arrows.

Panel #9 - Mimic on the run! I really like the way this panel composition turned out.
